Chicago... Day 1

It's July 4th today which means it's our 4th day in Chicago. We have one more day to spend in this amazing city. We should be at the Navy Pier right now but after 4 days of straight walking we are exhausted. We are going to be missing out on the July 4th fireworks that occur at the pier.
But... that means I have time for an update!

We have only explored the downtown area but it is a big area and I could be here for a week and still not see all the things there are to see here.
Here is a run down on highlights on a daily basis.

Day 1: Highlights: The Magnificent Mile, skyscrapers, Giordano's and The Navy Pier.

The first thing we did after getting into our hotel room at the Four Point Sheraton ( highly recommend this hotel because of it's super central location) was hit the Magnificent Mile. It is a long long long shopping street with any store you could think of. It was just down the street from where we stayed. I will take some photos of the street tomorrow as I seemed to have been so distracted by shopping that I never took out my phone. That being said... I took plenty of pictures of the skyscrapers that first day in the city. They have the most eclectic collection of buildings. It's really quite breathe taking.

I took sooo many photos of the buildings. At different angles and in different combinations they act like monumental expressions of art. Really beautiful. We are always looking up.

When you go to Chicago deep dish pizza is a must right? Well that's was the first thing that we did. We headed to Giordano's. Apparently it is number 1 in Chicago. When you walk through the streets of Chicago it seems that every shop has a sign out that says its number 1.

See? Even cups are #1...

Here is the pizza

That, apparently, is a size small. So I learned after eating this that a deep dish pizza is a pizza LOADED with cheese. The filling sits inside a deep pie like pastry just not as flaky and also has a top that's made with dough. It's ultra cheesy and filling. It's pretty good but definately can't eat more than one slice. We ordered a couple of appetizers too. They were excellent.

Garlic Parmesan fries. Omg. So yummy. I liked this more than the pizza.

A salad with greens and fennel. This is a really nice salad with a tart and refreshing dressing.

Lastly we headed out to the Navy Pier. On the way there we walked through some dingy tunnels. In one of them I found this staring back at me.

The Navy Pier: It's kinda like Granville Island but way more fun. There are rides and a Ferris wheel , restuarants, and some beautiful views of the water.

It was a really windy day.

There are neat sculptures everywhere in Chicago. Here are some at the Pier.

Just a look at the Pier for you.

That was our first day in Chicago!!! We were pooped. I think we slept at 8pm. Lame, I know.
